Weekend Cooking- Noah's in Greenport

This post is part of Beth Fish Reads' Weekend Cooking.  If you have anything related to food, cookbook reviews, novel or non-fiction book reviews, recipes, movie reviews, etc., head over to Beth Fish Reads and add your post. Or, if you want to read food related posts, head over to read what some interesting people have to say about food.

Last weekend my husband participated in a 100 mile bike ride in North Fork on Long Island. We stayed in the village of Greenport, and the first night we ate dinner at a restaurant in the village called Noah's.

It's a relatively new restaurant, only open for a few years, operated by chef Noah Schwartz and his wife Sunita who runs the dining room and is the sommelier. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and crisp and looks unassuming from the outside. Don't let that fool you.

We had a very knowledgeable waitress who really knew her stuff when it came to the wine. They have many local wines on their list, and I decided to try a rose, the Croteaux Sauvage 181 North Fork of Long Island, which was wonderful. I don't normally drink a rose wine, and this one had a nice strawberry taste to it.

There are three parts to the menu- Taste, Small Plates and Large Plates. We skipped the tastes, although the Marinated Olives and Crab Stuffed Deviled Eggs did appeal to us. We ordered three small plates; I had the Tempura Battered Squash Blossoms, which I first tasted on our trip to Rome in February. They were stuffed with a tasty goat cheese, topped with a pesto sauce over a frisee salad. It was amazing, the flavors just burst in my mouth, and it is definitely something I would order again.

My husband got the Crescent Farms Duck BBQ, which was pulled duck in a barbeque sauce, served on a bed of smoked cheddar polenta. He gave me a taste and even though I am not a huge duck fan, this too was very tasty.

We shared the Grilled Skirt Steak, which was a delicate plate of a few slices of perfectly cooked steak, topped with crispy onions and a smoked cheddar chipotle aioli. This was fantastic, our favorite small plate and we lamented that we didn't have more of it to eat. ( I also practically licked the plate clean.)

We also shared a large plate, the Kobe Beef Burger, served on a Blue Duck Brioche Bun, with french fries and pickles. The burger was cooked perfectly, and the fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just the way I like it.

The entire experience was memorable, and I tried desperately to convince my husband to return the following evening for dinner, but was unsuccessful, darn the luck. If you ever end up on the North Fork of Long Island, do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Noah's. It was so good, I would even brave the two+ hour long car ride to go back again, and I hate long car rides.

I'm not the only one who like Noah's; they have a 26 Zagat rating.
